Frequently Asked Questions

Will I get to see progress photos or previews before the painting is finished?

Yes!

  • Standard Single-Photo Portraits: If we are painting directly from a single reference photo without major composition changes, I will send you a final preview photo once the painting is complete to confirm likeness before applying the protective varnish.

  • Custom & Multi-Photo Compositions: If we are combining elements from multiple photos or making color variations, I start by sharing an initial black-and-white compositional sketch followed by a rough color block-in preview so we are aligned on scale and layout early on.

Once you approve the finished portrait preview, we varnish your piece and prepare it for delivery or pickup!

Can I request specific color palettes or background tones to match my interior home decor?

Absolutely. During our initial consultation, we can discuss your color preferences, the lighting of the room where the painting will hang, and your existing interior palette. Whether you prefer soft neutrals, warm earth tones, or vibrant accent colors, the background and overall tonal balance can be tailored to complement your space.

What reference photos work best?

Clear, natural lighting with sharp focus on the eyes and facial expressions makes for the most evocative portrait. Avoid heavy digital filters or overly compressed images.

Does the portrait come framed or ready to hang?

Paintings are created on stretched canvas with finished edges, making them ready to hang straight out of the box without a frame. If you prefer a framed look, standard sizes fit easily into floater frames or traditional moldings. We can also arrange or discuss decorative framing during our initial consultation.

 What is the turnaround time?

Custom portraits typically take 1-2 weeks, depending on complexity and oil drying time (an additional 1 week). Please plan ahead for special occasions or holidays.

How do payment terms work?

A 50% non-refundable deposit is required to reserve your spot on my commission schedule and begin the design process. The remaining 50% balance, plus shipping costs, is due upon final approval of your finished portrait preview before the artwork is packaged and shipped.

Do you ship internationally or locally?

Currently, I ship within the United States only. All shipped artwork is securely packaged in archival-safe materials with full insurance and tracking. If you are located in the San Francisco Bay Area, local pickup is also available in Mountain View, CA.
