Frequently Asked Questions

  • Will I get to see progress photos or previews before the painting is finished? Yes! If we are combining elements from multiple reference photos or working with custom backgrounds, I start by sharing an initial black-and-white compositional sketch, followed by a rough color block-in preview. This ensures we are aligned on composition and scale early on. Once the pet portrait is completed, I will send you a final preview for confirmation of likeness before applying the protective varnish.

  • Can you combine multiple photos into one painting?  Yes. If you have separate photos of your pets that you would like brought together into a cohesive portrait, we can arrange that during the initial consultation.

  • Can I request specific color palettes or background tones to match my interior home decor? Absolutely. During our initial consultation, we can discuss your color preferences, the lighting of the room where the painting will hang, and your existing interior palette. Whether you prefer soft neutrals, vibrant outdoor tones, or warm earth shades, the background can be tailored to complement both your pet and your home space.

  • What reference photos work best? High-resolution photos taken in clear, natural daylight work best. Focus on capturing sharp detail around your pet's eyes, nose, and fur textures. Close-up photos taken at eye level, rather than looking down from above, tend to make the most expressive and engaging portraits. Please avoid heavy digital filters or dark, blurry images.

  • Does the portrait come framed or ready to hang? Paintings are created on stretched canvas with finished edges, making them ready to hang straight out of the box without a frame. If you prefer a framed look, standard sizes fit easily into floater frames or traditional moldings. We can also arrange or discuss decorative framing during our initial consultation.

  •  What is the turnaround time? Custom pet portraits typically take 1 week, depending on complexity. Oil paintings require an additional 1 week of essential drying time before varnishing and shipping. Please plan ahead for special occasions or holiday gifts!

  • How do payment terms work? A 50% non-refundable deposit is required to reserve your spot on my commission schedule and begin the design process. The remaining 50% balance, plus shipping costs, is due upon final approval of your finished portrait preview before the artwork is packaged and shipped.

  • Do you ship internationally or locally? Currently, I ship within the United States only. All shipped artwork is securely packaged in archival-safe materials with full insurance and tracking. If you are located in the San Francisco Bay Area, local pickup is also available in Mountain View, CA.
